













Take your students beyond the pages of their history book and into the sights, sounds, and stories of early American life in Indiana. At Mississinewa 1812's Education Day, history doesn’t just repeat itself - it comes to life all around you.


This unique field trip opportunity is designed specifically for school groups to immerse themselves in the daily lives of people living in the early 19th century. As they walk through our expansive living history encampment, students will encounter artisans and reenactors demonstrating traditional skills such as pottery throwing, blacksmithing, open-fire cooking, wood turning, candle making, and more. They’ll hear tales from Native storytellers, learn how clothes were made and worn, and witness the bustle of a frontier market.

Each encounter is rich with historical context, designed to inspire curiosity and deepen understanding. Whether your class is studying Indiana’s territorial years, early American frontier life, or the War of 1812, Mississinewa 1812 offers a vivid, hands-on experience that complements classroom learning.

Important information for our Education Day:
Mississinewa 1812 is a living history event. Our reenactors are there to answer questions and demonstrate life as it was during the year of 1812. Educational demonstrations take place throughout the day in different areas. Students are encouraged to ask questions.
Lunches:
More details will be coming this summer on labeling and transporting sack lunches and coolers to the Dance Tent for your class to retrieve at lunch time.
Parking:
More details will be coming this summer on parking buses and passenger vehicles at our new property.
Tickets and Entrance:
All Education Day tickets must be purchased and paid for in advance. More information on ordering tickets and entering the grounds will be provided this summer.
Do’s and Don’ts for Mississinewa 1812:

All the encampments are participants’ own private tents and wigwams. Please do not enter the campsite, tents or wigwams without permission.

Please do not touch or take anything from participant encampments including hedge apples, buckeyes, and other items found in nature.

Please do ask questions and look at the items set up and displayed in the encampments.

Please do leave nature as you found it and not disturb the land.

Please do not toss things into the water, damage trees or move rocks or wood. Please do pick up all trash and use the trash bins to throw away refuse.

Please do not litter the site.

Please do have all students supervised and follow the safety guidelines and rules.

Please do not allow students to roam free or show disrespect to any participant of Mississinewa 1812.
